How Should We Organize Our Sub-Teams?

There is no requirement to organize your team. However, if you have large team or organic groups within your community, you may want to consider dividing the people on your team into smaller sub-teams.

If you run a corporate team, you might organize according to:

  • Functional departments inside of your company (sales, marketing, IT, ops, etc.)
  • Regional or geographic divisions (southwest, northeast, central, etc.)
  • Small sales teams that work together closely
  • Based on common interests
  • Assigning captains and allowing them to pick their teams

If you run a gym or fitness studio, you may organize teams in these ways:

  • Under the supervision of a specific member of your coaching/teaching staff
  • Based on the class times clients attend: “morning people,” “lunch people,” etc.
  • Based on common goals like losing weight or improving a particular habit
  • Based on common interests, either inside or outside of the gym
  • Based on your coaching staff and how you organize your members/clients

Healthcare practitioners often create sub-teams like this:

  • Under the supervision of a specific member of your staff
  • Based on common goals like losing weight or improving a particular habit
  • Based on common interests, either inside or outside of your healthcare practice

Private trainers could create teams:

  • Based on the class times clients attend: “morning people,” “lunch people,” etc.
  • Based on common goals like losing weight or improving a particular habit
  • Based on common interests, either inside or outside of the gym

The benefit of these sub-teams is that they will be able to see their progress as a group as the Challenge goes on and can engage in healthy “competition” against the other sub-teams in your company.

Additionally, you’ll be able to appoint a team captain for each of these sub-groups. The captain can keep tabs on the progress of each player, offer assistance for struggling members, and give praise for great work.
