Why do you allow artificial colors/flavors, MSG, nitrates, hydrogenated oils, and benzoates at the kick start level?

The Kickstart Level was designed to be an entry point for people who have little or no foundation in eating well. Think of a person who skips breakfast (or just has a cup of coffee), drinks 2-3 sodas over the course of the day, has a sandwich for lunch and a pasta dinner with a couple of beers.

A healthy, incremental, and sustainable change for that person might simply be not drinking sodas or beers each day - and THAT might be too big of a change to be sustainable for longer than six weeks. 

It's not like we think that the ingredients you listed in your question are healthy... we're essentially performing triage... identifying and shifting behavior around the worst offenders first.
